When should kids have their first Dentist appt?

I read in Parenting Magazine that kids should have their first appt when they’re about 1 yr old. I personally think that’s too young, but then again, this is my first kid so I really don’t have any experience to go off of. What have you heard or done with your kids? Thanks!
